Samsung delays launch of Gear IconX Bluetooth earbuds to August 19th

Samsung delays launch of Gear IconX Bluetooth earbuds to August 19th
Samsung was supposed to launch its Gear IconX Bluetooth earbuds in the U.S. on August 14th. The product had been released in various countries last month. But with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 hitting the marketplace on August 19th, Samsung has decided to align the release of the Gear IconX with the release date of its new phablet. Also on the 19th of August, Samsung's Gear 360 VR camera will be available to purchase.

The Gear IconX is a completely wireless set of Bluetooth earbuds that go right into your ears. To charge them, the earbuds are placed inside their container. A USB cable connects to the box on one end and an outlet on the other end. 4GB of internal memory allows you to keep 1,000 tunes stored natively on the device and "Ambient Sound Mode" will pick up surrounding noises and let you hear them over the music playing in your ears.

Samsung added fitness tracker capabilities to the Gear IconX. While working out or doing exercises, you will hear verbal encouragement in your ear, motivating you to reach your goals. The earbuds integrate with third party fitness trackers and can keep track of things like your heart rate, amount of calories burned, the number of miles walked, and more.

The Samsung Gear IconX will work on Android devices running KitKat 4.4 or higher. The container can charge the earbuds twice before it needs a charge itself. Streaming from a smartphone, the battery will last about 1.5 hours. Listening to the tunes stored on the device will give you 3.6 hours of battery life.

The Gear IconX can be pre-ordered right now from Samsung and Verizon for $199.99; as we said, they are now set to launch on August 19th. You can choose from three colors, Black, Blue and White. If interested, click on the sourcelink.

Official-looking iPhone 7 EarPods with Lightning connector get video review

Samsung's class act to shoot sarcastic arrows at Apple during the Note 7 presentationwas actually a tangential confirmation of a long-standing rumor about the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack on the upcoming iPhone 7. Samsung's Marketing head Justin Denison, while extolling the new USB-C connector virtues and the adapter that comes with it so that "we aren't going to move to a next-generation connector and leave you behind," mentioned something pretty telling: "Do you know what else it comes with? An audio jack. I'm just saying."

If that's not enough to convince you that the iPhone 7 would indeed eschew the audio jack in favor of the existing Lightning port to plug in your earphones, you must have pretty low estimates about Samsung's industrial espionage abilities. Removing the 3.5mm jack is pretty revolutionary, despite that the new Moto Z-series pioneered the move. It will let Apple make the iPhone thinner, and still leave more room on the inside to engineer at will.

If you are wondering how would you play music via wire now, fret note, as Apple is reportedly moving to a Lightning connector for its venerable EarPods, too. One purported video of those already leaked out, but the new clip above looks much more authentic, so you can take the alleged Lightning-equipped EarPods for a much closer inspection.

Best battery cases for iPhone SE

Best battery cases for iPhone SE

The iPhone SE, with its aluminum and glass construction, isn't particularly tough, so in order to avoid damage from accidental drops, you may want to buy a protective case for it. And while you're at it, why not go for a case that also includes a battery (since the handset's own 1624 mAh battery will usually not last more than a full day)?

To ease your work - in case you are indeed looking for an iPhone SE battery case - we made a selection of the best such cases currently available to buy in the US, and we're inviting you to check it out below. If you own an iPhone SE (or plan to get one), let us know if you'd consider buying any of these cases, will you? In alphabetical order:

Alpatronix iPhone SE Battery Case

Buy from Amazon ($26.95 - $27.95, depending on color)

PROS

  • Quite thin for a battery case
  • Affordable
  • Available in multiple color variants

CONS

  • Made from glossy plastic that's not grip-friendly
This Alpatronix case is a simple, yet elegant accessory that comes with a 2400 mAh battery - enough to charge your iPhone SE's built-in battery over 100%. It has a power LED indicator, and a raised bumper that'll protect the screen in case of drops. Ports, buttons and cameras are all easy to access. The Alpatronix case is 0.6 inches (15.2 mm) thick, which means it's actually pretty thin for a battery case - it's the thinnest on our list anyway. The case comes in your choice of black, blue, green, pink, or white.

Maxboost Atomic S iPhone SE Case

Buy from Amazon ($29.95)

PROS

  • Relatively affordable
  • Integrated kickstand

CONS

  • Audio jack adapter and kickstand feel cheap
The Maxboost Atomic S iPhone SE Case is another good looking case that comes with a 2400 mAh battery, and can deliver 120% additional battery life. The case employs a two-piece design for comprehensive protection, also including an LED battery level indicator, and a kickstand.

Mophie Space Pack

Buy from Mophie (starting at $149.95)

PROS

  • Has its own additional storage space (from 16 GB to 64 GB)
  • Available in multiple color variants
  • 2-year warranty (the other cases come with 1-year warranty)

CONS

  • Expensive
  • 1700 mAh isn't enough to fully charge an iPhone SE

This is one of the most expensive battery cases we've seen lately, but it has an advantage (that no other iPhone SE case has): besides including a 1700 mAh battery, the Mophie Space Pack offers 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of storage space - which should come in handy especially if you own a 16 GB iPhone SE. The 16 GB version costs $149.95, the 32 GB model is $30 more expensive, while the 64 GB one costs $249.95 (this can be bought only in black).

Skiva PowerFlow iPhone SE Battery Case

Buy from Amazon ($19.99)

PROS

  • Very affordable

CONS

  • The bottom of the iPhone SE isn't fully protected

This Skiva case is the cheapest on our list, and should be a great choice for anyone not ready to spend more than $20 on an accessory of this type. The built-in 2000 mAh juicer can provide a 75% boost to your iPhone SE's battery life, while the integrated Lightning cable is used only when you need to charge the handset from the case's battery (thus, the rest of the time, the Lightning port remains easily accessible).

Unu Aero Wireless iPhone SE Case

Buy from Amazon (starting at $34.99)

PROS

  • Wireless charging support (pad included)
  • It looks pretty cool

CONS

  • A bit expensive

The Unu Aero Wireless case for the iPhone SE delivers 2000 mAh of extra power to your beloved compact handset. The case supports wireless charging, and comes with its own wireless charging pad for your convenience. Furthermore, with a shock-absorbing frame, and a raised bumper to protect the screen, this Unu case will make sure that your iPhone SE successfully survives drops.

ZeroLemon 4600 mAh battery case for iPhone SE

Buy from Amazon ($49.99)

PROS

  • Generous 4600 mAh battery (removable)
  • Definitely shockproof
  • Kickstand and belt clip included

CONS

  • One of the bulkiest iPhone SE cases we've seen
  • Not exactly pretty

As its name obviously shows, this case from ZeroLemon includes a 4600 mAh battery, which means it should be able to fully recharge you iPhone SE about two times. Thanks to a triple layer PC/TPU construction (including flaps for al your ports), the case will offer serious protection against drops, shock, and dust. You're also getting a built in kickstand, and a belt clip, but all these (plus the large battery, of course) make the case really thick: 0.8 inches (20 mm).
