The Vuzix Blade 3000 AR sunglasses will be showcased at CES 2017

The Vuzix Blade 3000 AR sunglasses will be showcased at CES 2017
Over the past couple of years, smartwatches have become an essential gadget for a lot of people's lives. They serve as an excellent companion for your primary device, allowing you to quickly and easily glance at any notifications that come in throughout the day. However, as great as smartwatches have gotten since their initial release into the market, they aren't the only major wearable piece of tech that exists. Augmented reality technology, such as Google Glass and Microsoft's HoloLens - may not be growing as quickly as smartwatches, but there's no doubt that they carry a lot of potential for true greatness.

Unfortunately, Glass as we know it is dead, and HoloLens is still restricted to a ridiculously large headset that you wouldn't dare wear outside in public. However, a company by the name of Vuzix is looking to change this with the Vuzix Blade 3000 Smart Sunglasses. Vuzix has just announced that these new smart glasses will officially be showcased at CES 2017 in January of next year, and from what we know so far, they look quite impressive.

The Vuzix Blade 3000 AR sunglasses will be showcased at CES 2017

The Vuzix Blade 3000 Smart Sunglasses will display a virtual HUD for the wearer that will contain information that's pulled from a smartphone it's paired to. Vuzix has said that these glasses have capabilities similar to that of a smartwatch, and in many use cases, it could completely get rid of the need for you to have to pull your phone out to conduct regular tasks. Vuzix achieves all of this through the use of their Cobra II engine and what they call, "waveguide optics." This tech allows the Blade 3000 Smart Sunglasses to showcase all of this information over the real world in front of you - similar to Google Glass and Microsoft HoloLens. However, unlike those two gadgets, the Blade 3000 is able to house all of that tech into the body of a rather normal-looking pair of sunglasses. Bundle all of this tech with an included HD camera, motion tracker that is able to detect your head movements, and a touch pad, and you're looking at an insanely promising package.

There's currently no word on pricing for the Vuzix Blade 3000, but we wouldn't expect them to come cheap. As for compatibility, the Blade 3000 runs the Android OS, but it will work with both Android and iOS-powered phones. Thankfully, we won't have to wait too much longer for additional information on this gadget as CES is just a couple short months away at this point.

Rumored specs for the OnePlus 4 surface again: dual cameras, 4000mAh battery and up to 8GB of RAM

Rumored specs for the OnePlus 4 surface again: dual cameras, 4000mAh battery and up to 8GB of RAM
With the OnePlus 3T expected to be unveiled this coming week, rumored specs for the company's next all new flagship phone have surfaced. Not 100% sure about the naming scheme, the source calls the phone the OnePlus 4 (5?). With a body made from glass, the OnePlus 4 (5?) will carry a 5.3-inch AMOLED display with a 1440 x 2560 resolution. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 830 chipset. 6GB/8GB of RAM will be onboard along with 128GB of internal storage. Some of these specs match those discussed in an earlier leak from last month.

A dual camera setup is said to be on back using a combination of Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality cameras, and a 4000mAh battery supplies the power. The OnePlus 3, as you might recall, was launched last June. This means that we could be about half a year away from the release of the OnePlus 4 (5?).

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 3T is believed to be a refreshed version of the OnePlus 3 with a faster Snapdragon 821 chipset under the hood, an enhanced 16MP rear camera with updated sensors, an LCD screen (no more AMOLED panel) and Android 7.0 running the show right out of the box. The device could be introduced as soon as November 15th. Keep checking in for the latest.

Poll results: Samsung's Gear S3 Frontier leads the charge

With Android Wear taking a bit of a backseat in the smartwatch competition for 2016, the Apple Watch Series 2 and Samsung Gear S3 are the two top dogs for the wearable market this shopping season. While Apple's updated watch has been on the market for a minute at this point, Samsung is prepping to finally launch the Gear S3 in the US on November 18.

The Gear S3 packs all of the traditional features you'd come to expect in a smartwatch in 2016, with some of the most notable ones including the ability to use it to make mobile payments with Samsung Pay, built-in GPS, and a rotating bezel that allows you to intuitively interact with the user-interface. However, perhaps the most notable aspect is the fact that the Gear S3 comes in two main variants - the Classic and the Frontier. The Gear S3 Classic features a design that resembles a fancy, high-end wrist watch, whereas the Gear S3 Frontier is made to be more rugged and sporty.

We recently held a poll here on PhoneArena to see if you (our readers) would be purchasing the Gear S3. We had a lot of votes come in for this one, but with a final count of 350 votes (37.08%), it looks like most of you will be purchasing the Frontier flavor. One hundred and sixty-four of you said that you'd be waiting for the reviews of the Gear S3 to come out before you handed over any of your money, and 160 voted that they'd be getting the Gear S3 Classic.

All of the final results can be found below, and if you didn't get a chance to participate in this one, be sure to leave a comment down below to let us know if you'll be getting the Gear S3, and if so, which model.

Unannounced Meizu M5 Note visits Geekbench

Unannounced Meizu M5 Note visits Geekbench
On Halloween, the entry level Meizu M5 was unveiled. Carrying a 5.2-inch 2.5D screen with a 720 x 1280 resolution, the M5 is powered by the MediaTek MT6750 chipset. Now, it appears that there will be a premium version of the device called the Meizu M5 Note. This handset was just put through the Geekbench benchmark test, giving us a limited look at the handset's specs.

The Meizu M5 Note has the MediaTek MT6755M Helio P10 SoC under the hood. For the Geekbench test, the octa-core CPU was running at 1GHz. 3GB of RAM is on board. That is up 50% from the 2GB of RAM employed by the M5. The M5 Note scored 687 and 2481 on its single-core and multi-core tests respectively.

The phone also received its CCC certification in China. The M682 listed on the documentation (click on the slideshow) should be the Meizu M5 Note, especially when you consider that the M681 is the M3 Note. The CCC safety mark is required on all devices imported, sold or used in the Chinese market.

So far, we have no word on when to expect Meizu to unveil the M5 Note. Pricing also remains unknown.

Deal: You can grab the YotaPhone 2 - the Android phone with two screens - for just $119.99
In the world of mobile tech, November is one of the best times to shop for crazy good deals on some of the hottest products that have come out throughout the year. We've constructed a comprehensive guide on some of the best deals that have already been announced, but if you're in the market for something a bit more peculiar, a new deal just popped up that could be perfect for you.

This deal has to do with a phone that you can purchase for way under $200, and it's easily one of the most interesting smartphones that's ever been released. The phone is the YotaPhone 2, and you can currently be the owner of it for the low cost of just $119.99. This is a phone that came out back in 2014, so the specifications aren't anything to write home about. We're talking an 8MP rear camera, 2GB of RAM, Snapdragon 801 processor, and a 2500 mAh battery. Those specs might not sound all that impressive, but that's because they aren't supposed to be. The real star of the show here has to do with the YotaPhone 2's display, or rather, the YotaPhone 2's dual displays.

Deal: You can grab the YotaPhone 2 - the Android phone with two screens - for just $119.99

In case you forgot, the YotaPhone 2 has two screens - one on the front and one on the back. The front/primary display is a 5-inch LED panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Flip the phone over though, and there's a secondary 4.7-inch e-ink display with a resolution of 540 x 960. That e-ink display can be used for a number of things, including reading e-books, displaying the current weather, a custom wallpaper, or even the standard Android interface if you want to save some battery. It certainly is one of the most interesting designs we've ever seen, and while a lot of the specs might be outdated, $120 is a great price to pay if you want to own of the most unique smartphones that's ever been released.

The deal is being offered by GearBest.com, and heading to the website will showcase the YotaPhone 2 being sold for $135.99. However, if you enter the coupon code "YOTAPGB", you'll be able to kick that price down to $119.99. This offer will be over in 4 days and there are only 167 units remaining at the time of this writing, so if you're at all interested in this deal, you'll want to act quickly.

New app allows certain Android phones to copy the Pixel's fingerprint gestures

New app allows certain Android phones to copy the Pixel's fingerprint gestures
A new app called Fingerprint Gestures is now available from the Google Play Store. With the app, the fingerprint gestures used on the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL will work on other Android models. The app supports any Android handset running 6.0 Marshmallow, or higher. Of course, the phone needs to have a fingerprint scanner for the app to work.

With the app, users will be able swipe down on the fingerprint scanner in order to have the notification shade drop down. A single tap on the fingerprint scanner opens up any app chosen by the user. A double tap on the scanner puts the phone to sleep. Some other actions require the user's phone to have root access, although the basic gestures do not require it.

The app is free to download and install. So if you're tired of hearing from your friends about how their Pixel or Pixel XL can respond to certain gestures made on their model's fingerprint scanner, this app allows you to tell them that your phone can do the very same thing. To grab the Fingerprint Gestures app from the Google Play Store, simply click on the sourcelink.

Previously leaked bordlerless Meizu phone could be the Pro 7

Previously leaked bordlerless Meizu phone could be the Pro 7
Earlier this month, we showed you the image of a borderless Meizu handset. Similar to the Xiaomi Mi MIX, this model has a high screen-to-body ratio, even higher than the 84.16% figure seen with Xiaomi's popular full screen handset. The Meizu phone appears to have its screen covering close to 100% of the body, with Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded under the screen.

According to some fresh images spotted on weibo Saturday, it appears that the borderless Meizu phone is the Meizu Pro 7. A series of slides for the phone reveal two separate variants. The model with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage shows a price that is equivalent to $396 USD. The version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage carries a price equivalent to $454 USD.

The Meizu Pro 7 is expected to feature a 5.62-inch Super AMOLED screen with an unusual 1080 x 2160 resolution, and close to a 100% screen-to-body ratio. The full body screen is said to account for the odd resolution and a possible aspect ratio of 2:1. The phone is only 6.5mm thin, and the mCharge 4.0 rapid recharge system takes a battery from 0% to 100% in just 40-minutes. Lastly, the images show that there is an 8MP front-facing camera.

Check out all of the images by clicking on the slideshow below. The phone is expected to be unveiled on December 24th.

We definitely suggest taking this story with the proverbial grain of salt.
